Prototypes

  • Home
  • Prototypes
Prototypes are an indispensable step in product development as they allow new ideas to be tested and potential errors to be identified at an early stage. With modern manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing, CNC milling and injection molding prototyping tools, prototypes can be produced quickly and accurately.

These methods offer flexibility and accuracy to develop both simple and complex components that meet the requirements of the subsequent series product. Prototypes therefore make a significant contribution to speeding up the development process and ensuring the quality of the end product.

Production of prototypes

Prototypes are an essential part of product development as they allow companies to test their ideas in real objects before they go into mass production. The production of prototypes is a critical phase in which design, function and materials are put through their paces. Various methods are available to create suitable prototypes depending on the requirements and project phase.

  • 3D printing: 3D printing has revolutionized the production of prototypes. Additive manufacturing allows detailed and functional models to be created in the shortest possible time. This method is particularly useful for quickly visualizing and adapting design ideas. In addition, 3D printing is cost-efficient as no expensive tools or molds are required. Another advantage is the ability to produce complex geometries and structures that would be difficult or impossible to realize using conventional methods. Particularly in the early concept phase, 3D printing is ideal for making initial approaches tangible.
  • Milled parts: CNC milling comes into play for prototypes that have to be made of solid materials such as metal or plastic. High-precision milling machines can be used to produce parts from raw materials that have extremely precise tolerances. This method is ideal for prototypes where stability and mechanical functionality are important, such as mechanical components or housings. CNC milling makes it possible to create realistic prototypes that simulate the final production conditions and allow precise conclusions to be drawn about the end product.
  • Injection molding prototyping tools: When prototypes are needed that closely match the final production method, the use of injection molding tools for prototyping is ideal. These tools are specially designed to produce small quantities so that early tests can also be carried out under series production conditions. This method is used particularly in the field of plastics production to test components for their accuracy of fit, durability and functionality. Prototype tools in injection molding offer the possibility of producing prototypes that simulate the final product as closely as possible without the cost and effort of full tool production.

By using these different methods in prototype production, companies can speed up their product development, minimize risks and make informed decisions for later series production.
